👑 Exclusive! Joy Crazy Invite to Pickleball Kingdom - August 23!
Exciting news!
Pickleball Kingdom in Tigard, a brand-new 42,000 square-foot pickleball facility, is opening near Bridgeport Village. They are hosting a “soft opening” and Joy Crazy has been invited to use two private courts for free on Saturday, August 23 from 1 to 4 PM. We have spots for 20 players, so grab your paddle and your daisy flower and get ready to enjoy “open play” pickleball games - beginning and intermediate players welcome.
To participate, you'll need to download the Pickleball Kingdom app, create an account, and sign their waiver. This is a perfect chance to check out the 13-court facility (site of the old “Bed, Bath, and Beyond”) before the grand opening, and enjoy an exclusive Joy Crazy group play session!
Here is the special Joy Crazy Invite link.
Here I am, Shannon Diffenderffer, M.Ed., an IPTPA Certified Pickleball Instructor, Founder of Joy Crazy® Pickleball and a Portland Community College Community Ed Pickleball Instructor, excited to be visiting the new Pickleball Kingdom in Tigard, Oregon.
The facility was still under construction during my visit in August 2025 - no lines or nets on the courts - so I was ready to lend a hand and start drilling!
The Grand Opening is scheduled for September 6th, 2025.

🏖️ Lincoln City Getaway - Music & Pickleball
I'm always looking for an excuse to head to the shore, so why not add a little Jazz and Pickleball to the mix!
Our own Joy Crazy Daisy, jazz pianist Gordon Lee, will be performing along with several other talented artists at the Siletz Bay Music Festival on Thursday, August 21 at 7:30pm in Lincoln City. They will be honoring Native American jazz legend Jim Pepper in a special concert at Chinook Winds Casino Resort: Gordon Lee and Friends Celebrate the Music of Jim Pepper.
On Friday morning I plan to visit Lincoln City's Community Center to play in their scheduled drop-in pickleball from 9 am - noon. They have options for both indoor pickleball (basketball gym) or outdoor at Dorchester park if you want to give it a try.
Pictured above are Dave and I in March 2025 when we found a "Finders Keepers" glass float along the sea shore in Lincoln City, Oregon. The beautiful hand-blown glass float was made by ThornMeadow Glassworks.
Who knows what treasures I'll find this time?
If you're free, come join me in Lincoln City, Oregon August 21 & 22!

🏁 Trademark Finish Line Crossed!
Wahoo! 🎉
Thank you to everyone who purchased Joy Crazy® t-shirts and got me past the finish line! It took two years, but Joy Crazy® officially received a registered trademark notification from the US Patent and Trademark Office on August 12, 2025! Now I can use a circle "R" symbol (®) with the company name -- what a lot of work for a tiny little mark!
Your support of Joy Crazy® is GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you for helping me cross the "Trademark Finish Line!"
Thank you also to everyone who took time to share your personal pickleball stories for the recent speech I gave about pickleball and joy. The speech was very well received and I hope to give more (just ask - see contact info below!) Your stories are essential to helping others understand the joy of pickleball, so keep those stories coming!
🛥️ Pet Pals: Remembering Hannah the Adventure Pup
Hannah was a tiny Toy Poodle who was always ready for an adventure. Even in her later years, when I (Shannon) came to know her, she was very active and enjoyed paddleboarding, cycling, and hiking with Dave and me.
One of her hind legs suffered from nerve damage, which made long walks tough for her. We got her a doggie chest harness (see photo below) that allowed her to get out and about more comfortably. Folks often smiled when they saw Hannah in the carrier-especially when they realized, with relief, that she wasn't a hairy baby but an adorable pup!
Hannah was a lovable little bundle of joy. In the photos above, she is gray and white, but I'm told that in her early years, her curly coat was black. Fire crews enjoyed her visits when Dave Paul (inset) would occasionally take Hannah with him on rounds to the various stations. Here she is, being kept warm on a cold December night, under his jacket. Hannah passed two years ago, but she remains forever in our hearts.💜

🧩 Quick Quiz Answer:
The term "Sandwich Generation" refers to middle-aged adults who find themselves caring for both their aging parents and their own children at the same time. Many juggle work, family, and caregiving on two fronts, which can be both rewarding and overwhelming.
This last week I did a small bit of caregiving for both an 83-year-old and five-year-old member of my family. I once cared for seniors as a CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) and this was a good reminder that caregivers are everywhere – and that offering encouragement, support, and connection can help lighten their load. (It's also why this newsletter got out a bit later than expected. As we say, "I'm learning!")If you are a routine caregiver, or a member of the "Sandwich Generation," my hat's off to you! 💛
